Description
I found it sad to watch this beautiful Mountain lion pacing back and forth, he didn't look happy at all. He normally lives alone and roams many miles for hunting etc. I am sure there is a reason he is at the zoo. Maybe he lost his mom as a baby, or was injured, but he just had sadness in his eyes so I couln't watch him for too long. Taken at Buttonwood Park Zoo in New Bedford.
The mountain lion (Puma concolor) is also known as the cougar, puma, panther, and catamount, and is the largest wildcat in North America. Mountain lions have powerful limbs and can leap as high as 15 feet and as far as 40 feet.

With the exception of humans, the mountain lion has the largest range of any mammal in the Western Hemisphere. They are found from Canada to Argentina. In North America, they can be found from British Columbia and southern Alberta to California and Texas. Small populations can be found east of the Mississippi River. The Florida panther is found in isolated populations in Florida.

But you got such a cut capture of him! He looks like he is smiling. Maybe you made his day a little better! V.L
Linda Howes replied:
That's looking on the bright side. He looked very sad to me, maybe it doesn't show here. He was pacing, not a good sign. thanks very much Phyllis!

Poor baby, he is gorgeous, love mountains lions but so many people want to kill them all. So in the end he will live longer in the zoo, still sad though, they cannot understand. Fabulous capture. f/l
Linda Howes replied:
Well people seeing them at the zoo, makes them see them as they are, and then they will care more about them and want to save them, I hope! They have to eat like everyone, and we are the ones taking all their land, not the other way around.

As a lover of mountain lions and having seen quite a few in the wild, I was so moved by your comment Linda. Still, what a powerful yet melancholy photo.
Linda Howes replied:
Awe, that's sweet Harriet, to be honest I am surprised that everyone read it! Thanks so much!
