Description
This is a tribute to my beautiful friend Marilyn, who passed last February.
This heart was made by Artful Ashes. It is a the most amazing gift I have ever been given! Marilyn's daughter Laurie, gave me a piece of her mom! Marilyn's ashes are spread though out this amazing peace of art. It is actually clear with amber swirls, but I wanted to do something special for her tribute. I used some colored lights and tissue paper, and this is the color I ended up with.
I have a massage business for adults and children with Special Needs, and she became my client. She was on Hospice, and had Parkinson's for a few years. She was around 79 when we met. We didn't know how long she would be around, years or months. Over time we became friends and then close friends. I thought of her like a second mom, and her daughter told me she thought of me as one of her kids too! Parkinson's can also be like Alzheimer's, so some days she was herself and other days she was confused and had hallucinations. She was the strongest women I ever met. She was sweet and funny and we both had a great love for nature, which really connected us. I had many nick names for her, and she liked them all. She was a tiny woman, under 5 feet tall. I called her, my little Chickadee, my little cupcake, my little pumpkin, my little sweetie pie. Whatever came to me on that day. The massages helped greatly, so I was there twice a week and 3 times every other. I fell in love with this little woman, and I will never forget her. I know she is with me in the garden and watching me take picture.
I wrote this poem for her after she passed.
My Little Chickadee
This little lady came into my life,
with a rye sense of humor and a sarcastic bite.
It took a little while for her to warm up to me,
but over time we became closer than I could ever foresee.
Cute as a button and smart as a whip,
she always had an antidote or short little quip.
It became my quest to get the Marilyn smile,
but there were days it was a real trial.
She liked to listen to the stories I told,
and I like to talk, so a friendship did unfold.
When she was chipper, she gave me good advice.
We talked about gardening and what’s important in life.
As time went by, the closeness grew.
Then her body did fail, and her mind was going too.
I stayed close to the end and would have it no other way,
my love for this little lady will last forever and a day!
